New trailer reveals setting and premise
The release date was announced alongside a new trailer that shows more of the adventure set in a noir‑style, fictional Rio de Janeiro in 1937. The game has drawn attention in Brazil and abroad for its technical polish and engaging story.
The premise matches the title: the player is hired by the ghost of Brás Cubas — a character inspired by Machado de Assis’s Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas — to discover who murdered him. The complication: there is only one day to solve the case. When the day ends, time loops and the day restarts.
Players must observe the routines of 14 suspects, investigate their behavior, spot contradictions, and connect clues to reconstruct what happened. Information discovered in one attempt can be applied to subsequent loops to make progress in the investigation.
Mystery from Brazil comes to Switch
The adventure leans on a cartoony aesthetic and supernatural elements to recreate a fictional early‑20th‑century Rio. Rather than handholding, Posthumous Investigation asks players to interpret and relate clues themselves.
On Nintendo Switch, the game will support Portuguese (Brazil) as well as English, Japanese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Mother Gaia Studio says the Switch release will include all updates, fixes, and improvements the developer has released so far from day one.
If you were forced to read Machado de Assis for college entrance exams and didn’t appreciate him then, this may be a good opportunity to give Brazilian literature another chance on your handheld screen.
